07.22.09 (Wednesday)

Early labor should just be renamed, "ANNOYING".

I've been like this for almost 2 days now! I'm having contractions about 6-7 minutes apart, lasting 45 seconds-1 minute and definitely stronger than yesterday. Dr's orders are to go to the hospital when they're 4-5 mins apart, definitely peaking and falling, and lasting 1 full minute. OR if my water breaks (which i would prefer at this point - at least it would end the guessing!!!) Since yesterday evening, the contractions went from discomfort to a little painful. Some even stop me mid-sentence or mid-step. Baby is moving between them though, which is a good sign.

I walked all day yesterday - around the apartment in the morning when I couldn't sleep, around the neighborhood while it was misting, and around Smithhaven Mall when it was pouring out. My sister walked me like a puppy. hahahaha. I noticed a change in the contractions after all the walking - definitely more consistent and more painful. That's GOOD!

And then last night we went up to St Charles to visit a friend's new (incredibly adorable) baby, and while there, I tried to convince the Tiny Man that all the cool kids were in the nursery and that he was the only nerd still in the womb. No luck yet.

I was woken up several times through the night with contractions, but thank God, I didn't wake up every 7 minutes. I must've been feeling them in my sleep though because I was making some odd noises - even woke Rich up. That takes a lot! Once I was awake and started timing them again is when I realized they're still keeping the 6-7 minute pattern, lasting for 45 secs, sometimes a minute. Some are stronger than others - some just feel like cramps. Some of them can't even be timed from the starting point, because all I feel is the peak.

I'll be really upset if i get to my Dr's appt later and there's no progress past the 2cm from 2 WEEKS AGO! I'm not at work (don't feel safe driving - i had a contraction driving home monday night and felt like i couldn't even steer my car. Not good!) and if this isn't "REAL LABOR", I’ll be pretty angry that I’m “wasting” these days!!!!

I understand it's still early.
I understand that things can go any way with a first baby.
I understand that i have no control over when he's ready
.... but I am having a hard time dealing with it. ENOUGH ALREADY. If he gets any lower, I feel like I won't even be ABLE to walk. Seriously – bowling ball in the crotch. (i don't want any whining comments - DAD.)

We’ll see what the Dr says later... Until then, at least it’s sunny so I can walk around the neighborhood some more.

:(

I’m getting really frustrated and I just want to meet him.

07.16.09 (Thursday)

Things have definitely been changing these past 2 weeks!

Last week, at work on 07.08.09, I was having some pretty strong contractions - no set pattern/timing between them, but they averaged about 5 per hour. They weren't painful so I realllly didn't think I was in labor, I was just worried that it was too early for such steady contractions. I called my Dr's office and they said they wanted to get a sono of the baby just to make sure he wasn't under any stress, but they were all booked up for the evening and sent me over to the Labor & Delivery Unit at St. Catherine's Hospital. They hooked me up to some monitors and everything checked out OK. In fact, the little guy was so angry when they put the monitor on my belly to get his heartbeat, he kicked it right off! The monitor is strapped on and fastened with velcro and the little bugger kicked it hard enough to make it snap off. hahahaha. He's totally my kid - he HATES loud noises!

The sono was good - baby got a perfect score of 8. He's not under any stress in there at all. His hands were opening and closing and his feet were wiggling around in front of his face, as usual. He was still measuring about 2 weeks ahead and weighing over 6 lbs. He's in the perfect position to be born! I'm about 2cm dilated (out of 10), so that means NOTHING! hah! Baby can come tomorrow or weeks from now. I vote next week.

I had my normal scheduled weekly appointment at the Dr's office last night and all is well. Baby is getting a little squished in there...he's measuring approx 6lbs 10oz (give or take a WHOLE POUND, so he could be 6lbs now, he could be 7 1/2 - he's too big/squished to get exact measurements). Dr thinks we'll be looking at a nice healthy 8 pounder within the next 2 weeks. :)

I'm starting to get pretty uncomfortable. My gut is huge! I'm still working (and plan on working until the very end), so at least that keeps my mind off of things. Everything is DONE at home - baby stuff is all washed and put away in drawers, bouncer is put together and batteries are in, car seats are installed and checked for safety by the NYS Troopers, etc. (That's a GREAT service, if anyone's interested - once per month, the NYS Troopers have a free car seat inspection/installation workshop at the barracks in Farmingdale. They're professionally trained and so helpful!) I'm moving much slower than I normally do, but I'm still moving!

1 quick pic - as you can see, not only am I huge, but the baby seems to have dropped, too!

...Next appt is next Wednesday... if we make it!

06.30.09 (Tuesday)

Hiii!

34 week appt tonight and apparently Tiny Guy = not so tiny!!! He's measuring a little more than 2 weeks ahead, so the Dr ordered a growth sono for the next visit (in 2 weeks). Yaaaay, I get to see his fat little face again!!! Very excite.

HUGE news - I'm huge. It's official - I'm huge. hah. Measuring 36wks preggo and FINALLY in the positive re: weight gain. Officially up 4 lbs (after about 1/2 a lb of pasta at dinner tonight). It doesn't help that I've been called chubsy ubsy for weeks, because now I can no longer use the "I'm still in the negative!" line. poop! Otherwise, I'm doing really well. No swelling yet, no real pain/discomfort - just general fatigue by the end of the day. Blood pressure is my usual 120/78. The heat and humidity is the worst part for me. I'm always warm! Poor Rich sleeps with a down comforter and I freak if it even touches me. hahaha

Oh well. I'm definitely huge, I just didn't like seeing it on the scale. Guess I have to get over it. I'm happy that baby is getting all he needs and more from me. He was a very happy little bugger today, hopping all over the place when the Dr was trying to listen to his heart and dancing all through dinner. Feeling something move inside of you is DEFINITELY the weirdest thing I've ever felt in my life. Weird, but comforting. I'm going to miss having him all safe (and quiet) and all to myself in there - I hope I get a little better at sharing!

He takes after Daddy already....see? hahahahahaha

back in 2 weeks - or less, if something exciting happens! ;)

06.04.09 (Thursday)

Hi! :) Unexpected update!

I didn't feel right Sunday, Monday and Tuesday...not BAD, just weird. I called the Dr and they brought me in for monitoring Tuesday night.

I was having a lot of low cramping (mostly left side- no organs over there, so nothing too bad to worry about) that didn't subside with water or walking or laying down. It was painful at times - it even woke me from a deep sleep Monday night. I now know that they were contractions! I'm experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions more often now too. YES, I'm contracting, but not in a pattern and not too often. Perfectly normal at this stage in the game.

Would you believe that I didn't feel the baby move at all Tuesday from 10am-6pm...then AS SOON AS I GOT ON THE SONO TABLE, he had the hiccups and started kicking me like crazy??? THE LITTLE STINKER!!! Like ha ha, I got you!

The tiny guy is over 4lbs already at 30wks... head, femur, etc are all measuring at 32 weeks or so. If my Dr's office changed due dates according to measurements (which some do, but mine doesn't- boo), it would be the end of July instead of August 12th. He's in the 80th percentile for height, 80th or 90th for weight (i don't remember/didn't see the paper too clearly). It was like looking at a mini-Rich but with my mannerisms. Nice long torso, long arms/legs - all up in front of his face again (explaining my low kicks). hahahaha

My left side pain can best be explained by the fact that baby is all jammed up on my left side and FINALLY - FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY, for the first time this pregnancy, HEAD DOWN!!! Good boy!

Mommy is down 1lb from our 28 week appointment 2 weeks ago.

He had me puking for an hour Wednesday morning and now he's bouncing all over in there. We had a discussion last night that he's not to trick Mommy anymore because she's the one that feeds him and it's NOT NICE! :)

Still crampy today, but overall relieved. Waiting for blood work results - should get a call within a week - but there are no "bad" signs that point to pre-term labor. I'm lucky that I haven't had any swelling, high blood pressure, etc. I guess I'm just not used to feeling low pressure because baby was never in head-down position before!

The bottom line is that everything is FINE and NORMAL and baby is happy and healthy. Couldn't ask for more!

Look at his chubby little mini-Rich face!! :) I wanna bite it.

My back and feet are starting to hurt a little now, depending on my daily activity. I think everyone should email Rich and tell him the benefits of massaging his wifey's lower back, legs, and feet often. Happy wifey = happy baby. Who doesn't want to make the baby happy?!? hahahahaha

I'm still sleeping well, too. No complaints there!

We're taking our hospital tour this coming weekend, getting tiny's room in order (aka emptying MY COATS out of his closet...hah), etc.

It's getting closerrrrr!!! woohoo!

Be back soon :)
